"National Tuba Day" by Marti Ronemus

Talk about "heavy lifting." Picture a marching band, in those hot outfits, and some poor soul toting that tuba. Some tuba facts: The tuba is the largest, lowest bass instrument, and having appeared in the late 19th century, one of the newest members of the orchestra. And "tuba" is Latin for trumpet. And the people dragging those things around? They are called "tubists."

Well, that's your dose of useless facts for the day. How about some you can use at the table?

 Your choice:
A: Pass: We can argue about this one. A case can be made to raise to 2, but when all your length and strength is in the opponent's suit, we might do well to pass for now.

A: 2: We don't have the money to bid Hearts. A Negative Double isn't really an option. A simple raise of Pard's suit is probably the best choice. Let that tuba boom Pard's song.

Q: 5 - As South:

 Your choice:
A: 4: A Splinter bid, forcing to game (obviously) and showing a singleton in the "splintered" suit. Splinters in competition can only be made in the opponent's suit. Don't play Splinters? How about a Negative Double then. Another great song.

And our final hand of the month, coming up.
