 "They're Back!" by Marti Ronemus

More proof of "what goes around, comes around." It may have escaped your notice, but there's quite a resurgence of Troll Dolls recently. They even have a new movie out. Really.

Back in the 50s, a Danish fisherman named Thomas Dam amused himself by carving cheerful little wooden renditions of the legendary monster that hid under bridges to eat humans. His wife recognized their marketability, and after selling them door to door for a while, he opened a factory. What a hit!!

Originally, the trademark wild hair was made from wool. In 1964, it took the entire wool harvest of Iceland to meet the need.

And that's all you need to know about Troll Dolls. How's your bidding knowledge?

 Your choice:
A: Double: Pard has doubled a minor, which possibly shows only 4-3 in the majors. If we choose to bid one of ours, we may end up in a seven-card fit. Instead, we're going to make a Responsive Double which tells Pard to pick his own major.

 Your choice:
A: Double: Once again, we're going to avoid the troll under the bridge by using the Responsive Double. If Pard has doubled a major, our double asks him to pick his minor. Is this nifty or not?

 Your choice:
A: 2: If we were to double, we'd be promising 4-4 in the majors and we don't have that. Instead, we'll just risk the 7-card fit. Don't bother with the minor.

 Your choice:
A: 1: Yeah, yeah, trolls have been known to snatch people who overcall with only a four-card suit, but there are exceptions. This suit is so nice and with an opening hand, we need to be in the auction. If this hurts, follow Eddie Kantar's advice and tuck a Club in with those Spades, and bid.

 Your choice:
A: Pass: Last hand, we bid a four-card suit, but this time, we are passing. Yes, the suit is nice, but we lack the point count and shape of the last hand.

So, we avoided the trolls and mayhem on the quiz. How will we do on our hand?
