"We Are Not Alone" by Marti Ronemus

There's no question that we each respond emotionally to different colors. Well, guess what? So do lizards. Yup. Evolutionary biologist Breanna Putman designed a study to prove it. She wore different colors and measured how close she could get to Southwestern Fence Lizards. She was able to demonstrate that the little guys like blue (who doesn't?). Anyone wanting more detail should rush to the website of the scientific journal PLOS One. It's all there.

If we were tested on our color preferences, we'd all go for suit colors, black and red, no?

With that in mind, let's tackle those pesky bids and see if we can come up rose(s).

A: 4: Isn't Pard wonderful? He limited his hand and told us he's got Heart stoppers. Game in No-trump is tempting, BUT!! With our two singletons, transportation might be a struggle. Let's bid what we can make.

 Your choice:
A: 1: We and Pard can have many words about this one. It's tough. We can't double becaue it would show 4-4 in the majors. You can't passe with an opening hand opposite to an opening pard. Let's bid 1 as we would do if East had not bid. 1 shows 5 cards only if East bids Hearts.

 Your choice:
A: Double: Another tough one. Pass is certainly not an option, Pard opened and this is our hand. We want to hurt these people. What if Pard pulls it? Well, that's okay too. We trust our Pard to do the right thing.

A: 4: Trust our Pard. If he's willing to enter the auction at the three-level, he's got a good hand and a lovely suit. We're bringing our share to the table, with 2-1/2 quick tricks and a nice trump fit.

And now, time for our hand.
