Welcome to the fifteenth edition of V-Blue, the interactive magazine for those learning the fascinating game of bridge.
In this issue there are three important series for you to enjoy.
Two series (of six hands each) are on Opening bids and strong rebids. The issue here is: how do you show good hands when you are lucky enough to be dealt them? The first series looks at opening with one of a suit and making a jump rebid in the same suit. What does that mean? We will try to make that clear. We also show you what it means if you jump the bidding in a new suit. What are you showing now? As always we haven’t neglected the declarer-play part, which has something of a focus on trump management. Yep, it’s that hoary old dilemma - do we draw trumps first or do we look to play for ruffs? Old ground, maybe, but we think it is a very good idea to revisit this area.
The second series looks at the idea of a reverse and what that entails. This may be new territory for you - whether it is or not, it’s an area of bidding that seems to cause the inexperienced player much confusion. Let’s see if we can explain the principles clearly.
When you have absorbed the lessons here you may care to try out our “General Series” of eight assorted deals. These are designed for you to see what you have gained from previous editions of VuBridge. You can’t improve at this game without lots of practice and these deals give you plenty of opportunity for that.
Finally, you might like to try out the quiz. This is all about raising your partner’s suit when you are the opener. Easy? Well, we think so... Let’s see how you do. Enjoy these deals, you have a mighty feast in this edition.
Series #2407 - Suit openings & strong rebids - Part I (SA)
This series and the next (to be found elsewhere in this edition of V-Blue) are looking at how to describe good hands. Sometimes you might jump the bidding in your own suit, sometimes you might jump in a new suit. In the next series we look at the ever-mysterious world of the reverse.
Vu-Bridge Quiz: Raising responder’s suit
This quiz is all about opener's rebid after responder has bid opener's second suit. The simple question is how far should opener raise the suit?
