Editorial by Paul Bowyer
Welcome to the tenth issue of V-Blue, the e-magazine for those learning the wonderful game of bridge.
In this edition we are looking at bidding, specifically the dark arts of the competitive auction. When you open the bidding and an immediate overcall is Passed back to you what do you do? Soldier on regardless? Call it a day and Pass? Or is there a way of getting partner into the act? Anyway, as ever, VuBridge will be by your shoulder, helping and hinting and making sure you are on the right path.
When you have worked your way through these puzzles you may like to try the "General Series" of eight assorted hands. This time (for a change) there's a theme and that theme is first trick crisis. No more hints – you're on your own now. Some of these deals are easy; some are less so. That's as it should be of course - you don't want everything to be too simple, do you?
We also have a quiz for you to enjoy. Ten questions on re-opening the bidding with a Double. This fits in with our main twelve deals so some of you might like to start here. If so, that's up to you. Good hunting and good luck.
Series #2257 - Re-opening Double - Part I (ACOL)
This series is all about low-level Doubles and how they can be used to extract penalties. Essentially we focus on the problems faced by the opening bidder when an overcall on the left has been Passed back to you. Here you are in the reopening seat. What should you do? Surrender gracefully or continue the fight? If you decide to battle on what is the most effective way to do so and how might you punish an injudicious overcall by your opponents?
Re-opening Double Quiz
In a follow-up to Negative Doubles we are looking at its cousin (maybe a distant cousin) the Reopening Double.

Series #2258 - Re-opening Double - Part II (ACOL)
This series continues the theme of re-opening Doubles and how, on occasion, they can be used to extract penalties. In this second series on the subject we are going to look at different aspects of this problem
This series of eight deals is our general series of hands, usually a random mixture.
This time, though, there is a theme to them - and it is to do with "first trick crisis". We won't explain further, we will just ask you to put your thinking caps on!
