Editorial by Paul Bowyer
Welcome to the eleventh edition of VuBridge Expert Kit. We have, as is our wont, two series of half a dozen boards on a theme. In this edition we focus on elementary squeeze play. Now, it is often thought that squeezes are the exclusive preserve of experts – we are here to show you that this is not the case. The two series are slightly different, the first looks at a common type of pressure play called the squeeze without the count. Quite why it gets such a strange name will be left on the shelf for a while. The second series combines a squeeze with an endplay and luxuriates in the name of the strip-squeeze.
The first series focuses on No-trump play, the second series has a couple of examples of suit play thrown into the mix. From thinking that squeezes are difficult beasts to tame you may end up thinking that they are actually quite simple, domesticated pets. Let’s see.
The remaining eight hands, as ever, are all on counting the hand. These deals, written by our young expert Ben Norton, contain a mixture of counting shape, counting points and of discovery plays to determine one or both of these aspects. This is the time to exercise your brain and get cracking with 20 excellent, testing deals. Enjoy!
Squeeze Plays Part I
This series of six deals is all about squeeze plays, keeping a dangerous opponent off lead if possible.
Squeeze Plays - Part II:
By contrast with the first series, not all of these deals are played in No-trumps. There are squeeze plays appropriate to suit contracts.
