Editorial by Paul Bowyer
Welcome to the twelfth edition of Vubridge Expert Kit. In this edition we continue from last month’s issue on the theme of the strip-squeeze. Last month we looked at the basic idea (it would be stretching a point to call them easy examples); here, in two series of six deals, we increase the difficulty level a tad. The principle remains the same. In No-trump deals we run off a long suit, in trump hands we may run off the trump suit and in doing so, we hope to cause one of the opponents some anguish. Some of these deals require an endplay as well, and some do not. Which is which? Ah. That would be telling. These deals are all worth your time, though, as these hand types appear regularly at the table. Gird your loins and don your thinking caps.
The third series is, as ever, all about counting the hand. These eight deals, written by our young expert Ben Norton, focus on determining the opponents’ hand patterns in order to locate missing honor cards. A vital part of your skill set that needs constant practice. Lots of bang for your buck in this issue. Enjoy!
Squeeze Plays Part I
This series of six deals is all about squeeze plays, keeping a dangerous opponent off lead if possible.
Squeeze Plays - Part IV:
By contrast with the first series, not all of these deals are played in No-trumps. There are squeeze plays appropriate to suit contracts.
