Editorial by Paul Bowyer
Welcome to the twentieth edition of VuBridge Expert Kit. In this issue we continue the theme of defense where we are looking at signalling. Many aspects of signalling should be familiar to you: count signals to let partner know how many times to duck an Ace, encourage/discourage signals on partner’s lead and suit-preference signals when giving ruffs. In these twelve deals we show variations on these themes to show how you may apply these ideas in more subtle ways. As ever with defensive topics, these are deals that you ought to discuss with your favorite partner. After all, bridge is a partnership game…
The remaining eight hands, as ever, are all on counting the hand. Ben Norton, shows you how the mind of an expert works in locating missing honor cards. Think of these deals as artfully constructed whodunnit novels, maybe with Hercule Poirot using his “little grey cells” to solve the mystery. The clues are all there if you look hard enough. Enjoy.
