Opening leads against a suit contract by linda j green

The most important guideline about opening leads is to listen to the bidding!

Two cards touching each other constitutes a sequence. We lead the higher one of touching cards.

An important guideline is as follows:

1. Do not lead a singleton trump. You will help declarer find an adverse break in the trump suit.

2. Do not lead unsupported Aces (from spaces!) unless partner bid the suit or it is an unbid suit when they bid 3 suits looking to play in a NT contract. Aces are meant to capture Kings.

 Your choice:
A: 3. When partner bids a suit and we have 3 or more cards in the bid suit we lead LOW to show the count. Either 3 or 4 cards. Should we have a doubleton or a singleton Queen we would lead the Queen. Why lead partner's suit? Because partner opened and has the entries.
Exception : Should we hold the Axx we cannot lead away from an Ace in a suit contract. Therefore we would lead the Ace!

 Your choice:
A: 5. When we have natural trump tricks we do not lead a singleton! When we are long in their trump suit we lead our longest suit in anticipation to shorten declarer with our long suit. Hoping they will lose control of the hand. We do not lead unsupported Aces that do not have the king. Aces are meant to capture kings.

 Your choice:
A: J. We lead the top of a sequence . Not the suit they bid but the unbid suit. We NEVER lead a singleton trump. It would help declarer to look for a finesse should they need to look for a missing Queen or King.

 Your choice:
A: J. We cannot lead the unbid suit as we do not lead Aces from spaces! Aces must capture kings. This lead looks like the safest one. We have too many points to expect anything from partner and we also have a natural trump trick.
