Which card to lead in partner's suit? by linda j green

How many times do you think you should lead the top of partner's bid suit, or low from a 3-card suit, or low from an honor holding a 3 or 4-card suit?

The count is very important for partner, therefore leading the top should show a doubleton or a singleton in a NT or suit contract.

 Your choice:
A: 3. When partner bids a suit and one has no entries, lead the lowest which shows a 3 or 4-card suit. It does not promise an honor. It gives partner the count. Partner needs to know how many cards are in declarer's hand of the opener's suit.

 Your choice:
A: 2. When you are in a No Trump contract one leads the lowest card to show 3 or 4 cards.

Should you lead the Ace and declarer has the KJx declarer will make 2 tricks. Should declarer hold Qxx declarer will make one trick, whereas leading a small card from an honor, one may not make any trick in the opener's bid suit.

A: 5. Leading a low card from 3 or 4 cards does not promise an honor. In this situation it makes no difference, as long as partner gets the count of the number of cards in declarer's hand.
