Most bridge players seem to also be passionate readers. So many books, so little time, right? Well, how about this for great news?
Many libraries are eliminating late fees! At first glance, it might seem this would cause crazed anarchy, but amazingly 95% of books are still returned on time.
The outstanding advantage is that it has increased library usage by disadvantaged kids by 61%! (Are you loving these statistics from the National Library Association?) Is this important? I'll say. If a kid isn't reading at grade level by third grade, their is a more-than-50% chance they won't graduate. Getting those kids into the library without fear of fines is one of those changes that make a big difference.
Sort of like getting the bidding off to an excellent start with a solid opening bid. Ready?
