"What's on YOUR Bucket List?" by Marti Ronemus

102-year-old Carol Aimsworth has survived 18 presidential elections and seen events over more than a century. She only had one item left on her bucket list: to be arrested and ride in the back of a police cruiser. No swimming with the dolphins for THIS babe!

The St. Louis Police Department and the Five Star Senior Center teamed up to make her dream come true. The experience was a hit. The excited Carol, at one point, asked "Do you think you could put those cuffs on me?"

As one who has worked hard to avoid arrest, I'm not sure I get it, but hey, you go, girl!!

And today we will try to stay on the right side of the law by making some interesting bids.

Question 1

 A J 10 9 7 2
 5 4 3
 K 9 3

Q: 1 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
-234
?

 Your choice:
A: 5: This is a tough one and can surely end us up in a squad car. Pard is willing to enter the auction at the three-level... but in a minor. Sigh. We could raise his Diamonds, but... reasons to strongly consider bidding 5. First, picture Pard as dummy, with his outstanding (and it BETTER be!) Diamond suit as the perfect place for us to DUMP losers. Secondly, we've got such a beautiful Heart suit. And a little extra shape. And East may well be very weak. If you bid Diamonds, give yourself some credit. If you bid Hearts? Accolades.

 J 8 4 3

Q: 2 - South:

-122

 Your choice:
A: 4: We only have 9 HCP, BUT!! Let's think about it a little. We've got a 10-card Heart fit. How often does that happen? Plus we've got a singleton in their suit.

 Your choice:
A: 3 No-trump: Let's Do the Math. Pard opened and we've got our own opener. We know where we belong, we've got solid stoppers in East's suit, the lead is coming into our K-J-10. Put the handcuffs on and let's go.

Q: 4 - South:

-33Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 6: He who knows, goes. There's no reason to ask for Aces, is there? We've got to go to slam opposite a Pard who's willing to enter the auction at the three-level. Plus we've got that 9-card trump fit.

Question 5

 K 9
 A Q 8
 A K 6 3 2

Q: 5 - South:

---1
DblPass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trump: Pard's response to our Big Hand Double is minimum and under pressure. He should know by our willingness to bid 2 No-trump that we've got a Very Big Hand. With a nice minimum responder hand he'll take us to game. For us to go to game opposite his 2 bid would be a crime.

And now, on to our quiz.
