"Yet Another Thing We Didn't Know" by Marti Ronemus

Did you ever hear of a "mountweazel?" Me neither. It is a false entry in a fact book, designed to be a trap for copyright theft. The word itself comes from an entry in the 1976 New Columbia Encyclopedia.

The mythical Ms. Mountweazel was a photographer and fountain designer. Her book, Flags Up!, was purportedly an unmatched collection of rural American mailbox photography. Unfortunately, she was killed in 1973 in an explosion, while on assignment for the equally nonexistent Combustibles magazine. Who knew?

Don't try to find any mountweazels in Vu-Bridge. All our entries are true, true, true. Open to debate, but true.

Q: 1 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 3: We don't really want to raise Clubs, even with three of them. We're not delighted with No-trump or another suit. We do have an honor doubleton in Pard's first bid suit. He'll know we don't have three or we would likely have supported earlier. We're not delighted, but it seems to be our best choice.

Q: 2 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 5: We've got a minimum hand and great support for Pard's second suit. Normally we wouldn't be so eager to bypass 4 No-trump, but that's a pretty clear indication to Pard that we have no slam interest.

 Your choice:
A: 2: We don't need to jump shift. 2 is a reverse, promising a strong intermediate hand, with more length in the first-named suit. Also, our second-named suit is one Pard by-passed.

Q: 4 - South:

 Your choice:
A: 3: Unlike last hand where we didn't have to jump because we reversed, we can't reverse with this hand, so we must jump shift. We don't have the shape for a reverse. And most people play this as forcing to game.

Q: 5 - South:

?

 Your choice:
A: 1: There are those who would use a Michaels Cuebid with this hand, but because of the six-card major, we should consider overcalling the Spade. This is a minimum hand, and we don't want to do anything that might prevent our showing our six-carder.

And now on to our hand.
