"Chocolate Covered Anything Day" by Marti Ronemus

I know, I know! What a month! It seems like we just finished celebrating "Bacon Day" (well, SOME of you are finished. I continued...) and now it's "Chocolate Covered Anything Day." People expect December to be all about the Big Holidays, but like Las Vegas, there's a whole world beneath the glitz. And... dare I suggest trying (wait for it!!) Chocolate Covered Bacon? Don't laugh till you try it.

And now for our bridge tie-in... um... do we really NEED a tie-in?

Have fun with today's quiz and keep some chocolate covered cherries as a reward for correct answers.

Question 1

  Your Hand
 K J 3
 K Q 8 7 4
 A 3
 K Q 4

Q: 1 - As South?
SouthWestNorthEast
---1
?

 Your choice:
A: Double: Just a reminder... you cannot bid the same thing with 7 pts (which is what is needed for an overcall) that you bid with this hand. There's no way you make a simple overcall (7 to 17-ish pts) with this hand. The only way to show a hand with 18-plus hand as an overcaller is to begin with a double and then bid your own suit. How will Pard know it isn't a Take-Out Double? He won't till you bid again.

 A J 10 8 5 2

Q: 2 - South again:
SouthWestNorthEast
?--

 Your choice:
A: 1: This is a perfect Rule of 20 opener. You've got 10 HPC plus 10 pts for the sum of the number of cards in your two longest suits. Plus you've got two quick tricks. By the way, holding a A J 10 sequence is worth two tricks 75% of the time. We LOVE that card combination! It's worth a bonbon anytime.

Q: 3 - And South says...?
SouthWestNorthEast
-1
1Pass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 2: Ah, the rich, creamy milk-chocolate flavor of a cuebid. Pard has just told us that a) he has a fit with our Hearts, b) he has an UNLIMITED hand of 10-plus points, and c) he wants us to limit our hand. Yum. Pard's bid doesn't say anything about Diamonds. We need to show our size. With under 11 pts., we should bid as cheaply as possible. With 12-14 pts, we jump a level (or name a new suit), and with 15-17, we bid game. We need to make the cheapest bid possible.

Question 4

 A 8 6

Q: 4 - South again:
SouthWestNorthEast
---1
1Pass2Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 2 No-trumps: You really have nothing else to say. Pard has promised 10-plus pts, so we just want to make an invitational bid. "Want to share my Butterfinger, Pard?" We show 12-14 pts. If we had 15-plus, we'd just go to game.

Question 5

 A K Q 10 9

Q: 5 - South:
SouthWestNorthEast
1Pass1Pass
2Pass3Pass
?

 Your choice:
A: 4: Our Reverse was forcing, and promised almonds in the candy bar. It's a huge hand, and even more, it's a trick-taker. When Pard raised our Hearts, we knew where we should be and we bid game.

Is this a good decision? Do we win the big red heart-shaped box filled with chocolate covered everything? We can but hope.
