This refusal to support what the jury considers bad laws is called jury nullification or jury veto. Through jury nullification, people can control their government by refusing to allow bad laws to be enforced.
Not only can't juries be punished for their verdicts, but they aren't required to give a reason for the verdicts they render.
Is that cool or what?
Can you however be punished for bad "verdicts" (aka "bids") in bridge? Oh yeah. Are you required to give reasons? Do you need to ask? Haven't you been listening?
