"I'm Leavin' it Up to You" Responding to Limit Bids by Marti Ronemus

When one partner limits their hand, the limiter says, "I'm Leaving it Up to You," just like Dale and Grace sang in 1963. A limit bid shows point count within about 3 points and usually shows shape.

Today's challenge is to decide what to do next. Will we continue bidding? Pass? Pard is leaving it up to us. By the way, limit bids are not usually forcing.

(I have to admit having no memory whatsoever of that song. Makes me wonder what I was going in 1963.)

A: 4♥: Pard has shown a minimum opener of 12-14 points and a six-card suit. We have game-going values and need to place the contract. We might well consider 3 No-trump, but with a highly-distributional minimum Pard, that can be transportation problems. We will probably be safer in a suit.

A: 3 No-trump: We have the same hand as last question, but this time when Pard leaves it up to us, he's shown nine cards in two suits and we're not worried about transportation. We're going to go the "I only need nine tricks" route this time.

A: 3 No-trump: Pard's Jump Shift is forcing for one round. Despite the paucity of our wee hand, a game bid in No-trump best describes our hand. We've got stoppers in the two suits he didn't bid and really nothing else to say.
