"Subversive Messages" Rebids by Marti Ronemus

Conspiracy theorists are gonna love this one! The internet has spawned controversy about the secret, subversive messages in the design on Oreo cookies. This is NOT a joke! There are websites devoted to decoding the top of the Oreos, which apparently act as a sort-of Rorschach test for those of us who are a little less tightly wrapped than the average person. Why are there 90 ridges around the edge of the cookie? Are those designs REALLY patterned after the Knights Templar? Secret Masonic messages?

William Turner was a product engineer who in 1952 was charged with the assignment of updating the original 1912 design. He denied all accusations, saying they were just designs that fit and were cheerful.

BUT!! Do we believe him? Are Oreos REALLY as innocent as they appear? Or....

And what about our bids? What secret, subversive messages are THEY carrying? Let's find out.

A: 2♦: First, we need to decode Pard's bidding. It sounds like he's probably got five Diamonds and four Clubs... otherwise he most likely would have rebid No-trump. We only have a very minimum hand, thusly denying us the option of bidding 2 NT. We can't rebid our Spades, and bidding Hearts would create a game-force auction. Sigh. We have to pick one of Pard's suits, and it has to be Diamonds. It's dreadful, but it's what we gotta do.

A: 3♥: Did we pay attention to the subversive message in Pard's reverse? He has at least 17 pts, and we are going to game. Decoding Pard's hand tells us he has five Hearts and four Spades, so we've got an eight-card Heart fit. We don't need to bid 4♥, as we're going to game. The 3♥ bid shows a fit and gives Pard room for further action.
