"Most Hated..." by Marti Ronemus

According to the Huffington Post, Hater (a dating app based on mutual dislikes) put together a map of every state’s most hated food using data collected from its more than 600,000 users.

Some state’s top hates should come as no surprise: Residents of Washington, America’s coffee capital, take a strong stance against Keurig K-Cups, and in Vermont, which is known for its cheddar, spray cheese is looked down upon. (I thought spray cheese was a joke!) In the middle of the country, land-locked Kansas natives avoid shellfish, and people living in steak-loving Oklahoma can’t stand veggie burgers.

But the most hated foods in some states aren’t as easy to understand. New Mexico, for example, hates chicken nuggets, while Hawaii hates Coke, and Maryland hates the corner piece of the brownie. Who could hate corner brownie pieces? We fight over them in my house!

What about bids? Certainly good bids can't be reviled anywhere. Let's come up with some winners today. We're going to bid with style and panache.

A: 4♥: Believe it or not, some would not open this hand. Obviously they never read Eddie Kantar, who encourages us to open a hand with two aces and a king, when the king is joined to one of the aces. It also meets the Rule of 20. So then Pard shows 13-15 pts, thus limiting his hand, but forcing to game. It's up to us. Just as we upgraded last hand because of the presence of intermediates, we're going to downgrade this because of the lack of them. The singleton certainly makes the hand worth another look, but not enough for a slam. Let's stop in game.

A: Must discuss!: Different partnerships use different systems. Some cue-bid the opponent's major to show the other major with only four. Some bid 2♣ as Stayman for just the one suit. A: 2♥: Again, this is something to talk about with Pard. Most play that, in the Passout seat, a Jump Overcall is NOT preemptive. It shows of course a six-card suit, but promises a very nice opening hand.

A: 4♥: Here's the thing. We're not sure if we have game or not, as Pard's overcall could be just 10-ish pts. Normally, as Advancer we would use a cue-bid to pop the question. BUT!! There's no point. We would have to bid 3♠ and Pard is shoved to the four-level no matter what. We have a nine-card trump fit, and some extra distribution, so we're just going to bid game.
