Takeout doubles (3/3) by Matthias Huberschwiller

After both previous quizzes, you are now really good at takeout doubles. In this quiz, we will see how to respond to the double when you don't know what the final contract will be.

Remember, bidding the opponent's suit is called a cue-bid. It shows at least 11 points and says "partner, I have points, but I don't know where to go".

A: 2♦ - You will probably play a major-suit game, but which one?

You need to cue-bid, and your partner will describe his hand by bidding a four-card major. Then you will be able to raise him to game.

A: 2♦ - This time, you only have one major, but you still don't know which contract you want to play. If your partner has four Hearts, you want to play 4♥. If he does not, you want to play 3 NT.

Cue-bid, and you'll find out if your partner has four Hearts or not.

A: Pass - This is the exception where you can pass a takeout double - when you want to play the contract doubled.
