 Your choice:
A: 4NT. Madala held a great hand, and his singleton heart controlled the suit indicated by the opponents. He chose to bid Roman Keycard Blackwood.

Duboin responded 5, showing two keycards and the Q. Before you move to the next question on the same deal, decide how you would have continued.

 Your choice:
A: 7. Madala decided he had heard enough to venture a grand slam.
His partner held:
K Q J 8 6 4 2
A 9 8

K 7 3

As you can see, there were 12 tricks on top . A heart ruff in the short-trump hand brought the total to 13. The grand slam was also bid by USA2.

Q: 3 - Norway faces USA2 in the quarter-finals of the Bermuda Bowl. How will you bid Bakke's hand?

3 showed a game-try hand in spades.

 Your choice:
A: 5. When Brogeland jumped to 4, Bakke could see the chance of a slam. He might have bid RKCB, but he preferred to cue-bid clubs. When his partner cue-bid 5, he jumped to 6.

Partner's hand was:
J 7 4 2
K
A Q 7 4 2
8 3 2

Trumps were 2-2 and diamonds 4-1. Both tables made 6 with an overtrick.

Q: 4 - What will you bid next on Weinstein's cards, playing for USA1 against Switzerland in the semi-final of the Bermuda Bowl?

Levin's Jacoby 2NT showed at least a game-raise in spades. Your 3 rebid showed a singleton in that suit.

 Your choice:
A: 4. The bidding is forcing to game, so 3 does not limit partner's hand. Weinstein made a cue-bid (control-bid) of 4 to show the ace or king of diamonds. This was enough for partner to bid 4NT.

Your response of 5 showed 1 (or 4) keycard. Partner then knew that a keycard was missing and he leapt to 6.

If you had held the A instead of the king, and showed two keycards, the contract would have been 7.

Q: 5 - USA1 faces Switzerland. What will you say next on Drijver's hand?
SouthWestNorthEast

?

5 shows one keycard, which must be the K.

 Your choice:
A: 5. Since his partner might hold only seven hearts, Drijver decided to ask for the Q (that is what 5 normally means). His partner had eight trumps, plus a void and a side-suit king. He therefore leapt to 6.

Brink held:

K J 10 9 7 6 5 4
10 8
K 10 8

13 tricks were made. At the other table, Weinstein and Levin began with the same 4 - 4NT - 5 - 5 bids. When 5 was doubled, followed by two passes, Weinstein redoubled, but passed his partner's 5.
