Suit breaks by Paul Bowyer

Here we are looking at card play - in particular the way that suits break or split. You have to consider breaks such as 3-2, 3-1 and the like in order to work out how many truicks you might make if it's your lucky day. When playing the hand in practice it is, of course, important to count the cards as they are played so that you keep track of your suit.

There is the added chance that the ♥J might fall in two rounds (giving the other opponent ♥9 x x x). If this were to happen then the suit would also yield five tricks. Note that a singleton ♥J would allow you to make four tricks but not five.
